More Young Adults on Parents Health Policies

Increased from 24.7 percent to 27.7 percent

From 2009 to 2010, the percentage of young adults ages 19 to 25 on their parent's employment based health insurance increased. The number of young adults with employment based coverage as a dependent rose from 7.3 million to 8.2 million.

Also reported in the January 18, 2012 NAHU Newswire is a report that states are using the High Risk Pool funding more quickly due to higher medical costs than anticipated. Closer to home, Vermont is moving forward with the development of Green Mountain Care, the state's healthcare program. The plan has eight suggested changes to include merging the individual and small group insurance markets, and giving the Green Mountain Care Board autonomy over health insurance rate review, hospital budget reviews, certificate of need process and other healthcare related issues.
