New Hampshire to Repay $35 Million

Funds sent in error to state in 2004

New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney signed an agreement Friday for the State of New Hampshire to repay $35 million in federal Medicaid funds plus interest that were sent in error to the state in 2004. The total payment to the federal government will be $35.8 million dollars. The money went to hospitals that serve a disproportionate share of low income or uninsured.

Also reported in the December 7, 2011 NAHU Newswire is a story that Maine Governor Paul LePage proposed to eliminate Medicaid coverage for 65,000 Mainers in an attempt to cover a budget deficit totaling $221 million over the next 18 months.
