Supreme Court Hears Medicaid Cut Challenge

October 4, 2011

Case stems from a California lawsuit

The U. S. Supreme Court heard the case of Douglas v. Independent Living Center of Southern California yesterday, dealing with whether patients and providers can sue when the state cuts Medicaid payment rates. During the hearing, eight of nine justices asked questions and voiced concerns about the limits of a private action. The Justice's comments suggest they were leaning in favor of the states.

More on this case can be found in the October 4, 2011, NAHU Newswire.

The October 3, 2011 Washington Update includes and article about a speech Senator Paul Ryan delivered at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. The message was that Republicans should rally around a replacement to PPACA to help Americans access health insurance coverage. He said the major problem with healthcare is " one of inflation driven by over utilization of services, dramatic underpayments and massive inefficiency."
