Critical Medications In Short Supply

Shortages are nationwide

The August 8, 2011 NAHU Newswire reports an unprecedented number of drugs, over 200, are in short supply. Anesthesia and cancer treating drugs are at the top of the list. The shortage is being blamed on the lack of profitability and concerns about the raw materials from abroad, especially China. Hospitals have had to address changes on delivery of these drugs as a result of this shortage.

Also reported is a news release from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid regarding the new website with hospital quality data. The site provides comparative information on hospitals, nursing homes, home health, dialysis facilities, physicians, and also has a Medicare plan finder module. This site is definitely worth exploring.
