More Adults Under Age 26 Receiving Health Insurance Coverage

Healthcare reform responsible for upswing

In the first three months of 2011, large insurers saw a surge in new customers under age twenty-six. Well Point added 289,000 new members while Aetna added just shy of 100,000 and Kaiser Permanente 90,000. HHS estimates that the changes in the law would result in 1.2 million new enrollees in 2011.

Also reported in the May 24, NAHU Newswire is the lead story wherein the US Court of Appeals in Virginia is questioning whether it has the authority to decide the constitutionality of the Healthcare overhaul. The three-panel of judges question whether they can rule on tax law before any taxes are collected. Briefs by both parties must be submitted by May 31st regarding jurisdictional matter.
