Coalition Requests Lawmakers to Repeal OTC Medication Limits

Over the counter medications not reimbursable without a prescription

One of the provisions of healthcare reform that took effect January 1, 2011 was the necessity of a prescription for over the counter drugs to be reimbursed through a flexible spending account or health savings account. The coalition of pharmacies, health insurance companies and medical associations presented a letter to Senator Harry Reid and Representative Mitch McConnell requesting the repeal due to "unintended consequences" for both patients and doctors.

Also mentioned in the May 17, 2011 NAHU Newswire is an indication that Maine Governor, Paul LePage will sign a healthcare overhaul bill that was passed by the Maine Senate on Monday.
