| News Coalition Requests Lawmakers to Repeal OTC Medication Limits May 18, 2011 Over the counter medications not reimbursable without a prescription One of the provisions of healthcare reform that took effect January 1, 2011 was the necessity of a prescription for over the counter drugs to be reimbursed through a flexible spending account or health savings account. The coalition of pharmacies, health insurance companies and medical associations presented a letter to Senator Harry Reid and Representative Mitch McConnell requesting the repeal due to "unintended consequences" for both patients and doctors.
