States Seek Medicaid Waivers

Requesting waivers so they can reduce their Medicaid rolls.

Over half of the states are requesting waivers from HHS so they can reduce their Medicaid rolls. Meanwhile they are pushing for Medicaid block grants to have the flexibility to administer the programs as they see fit.

Controversy is surrounding the ten categories of care that are considered essential services under healthcare reform. Carriers are warning if these areas are expanded, it will result in increased costs.
