Bipartisan House Bill Targets Medicare Fraud

Lax oversight of the Medicare Part D prescription drug program is in the spotlight

In an attempt to adequately confirm prescriptions are actually written by physicians, CMS has agreed to validate all provider numbers this month. This is a result of an HHS IG investigation that Medicare Part D is not doing enough to verify prescriptions it pays for.

It is uncertain if the measure to repeal the 1099 tax reporting requirements as defined under healthcare reform will move through the senate as it's own bill or be attached to another bill. More on these stories can be found in the February 14, 2011 NAHU Newswire.

In the February 15, 2011 NAHU Newswire , the president's budget proposal includes a two year Medicare "Doc Fix". The budget delays the funding cuts set to occur January 1, 2012 for another two years.
