Recent election could assure a re-examination of the law

The newly elected congress will have many issues to address when they convene in January including the healthcare legislation passed earlier this year. In addition to the healthcare issue, the economy and jobs may take center stage.

Maine has requested a three-year waiver from the Medical Loss Ratio requirement that insurers spend eighty percent of premium on medical care. Of concern is the possibility of HealthMarkets Inc. withdrawing from the Maine market and leaving about one third of Maine individual policyholders looking for coverage elsewhere.
