Hearing on Constitutionality of Healthcare Reform Taking Place This Week

Florida lawsuit is one of many

Attorneys and a leading small business group are urging a federal judge to strike down the controversial law requiring Americans to have health insurance before it take place. Congress asserts they have broad power to regulate all aspects of the economy but some defenders of the law are a bit less confident the judge will throw out the lawsuit in its entirety.

Meanwhile some Democrats back the repeal of the health law tax provision requiring businesses to file form 1099 identifying anyone to whom $600 or more is paid for goods or merchandise in a year. Some are nervous about repealing this portion of the bill fearing a precedent for rolling back other unpopular features of the law could take place. In July 239 House Democrats voted for repeal. Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire is among Democrats that are critical of this bill.
