| News Vermont Says Some Seniors Not Entitled to Medicare Rebate Checks June 11, 2010 Asking low-income seniors to return rebate check to state The state of Vermont is asking low-income seniors that receive the $250 Medicare rebate check to turn it over to the state. The state contends they had already covered the cost of the prescription drugs and the recipients are not entitled to the rebate. An Administration official contends that "All Americans on Medicare who hit the donut hole and do not receive additional federal support are eligible for rebates." California will be receiving the largest share of the federal high-risk pool funds. HHS says because California has the largest uninsured populations they will receive the largest share of the $5 billion set aside to fund the program.
