Senate Democrats submit "Extender Bill"

June 9, 2010

Price tag about $140 Billion and adds about $77.5 billion to deficit

Senate democrats have unveiled their plan that will extend expanded unemployment benefits through November and reverse a 21 percent cut in Medicare reimbursements to doctors that took effect June 1st. Included in the bill is an amendment that would provide an additional $24 billion in special Medicaid funding to states that was dropped in HR4213 that was passed by the House on May 28th.

The Wall Street Journal reports that reduced reimbursement rates for hospitals and other healthcare facilities in addition to the recession are causing increased bankruptcy filings for hospitals.
