Congress to Extend Jobless Benefits Through End of Year

Medicare payment cuts delayed until 2014

Lawmakers have pushed back the scheduled twenty-one percent rate increases to physicians until 2014. The AMA, and other medical groups are not happy with this temporary fix. It is anticipated that this problem will escalate in urgency and doctors may find they cannot afford to accept Medicaid patients in the future.

Maine legislators are starting to look at the implementation of the healthcare law. The process will be complex in as much that they will need to review Medicaid provisions, tax incentives, insurance exchanges and individual mandates among many other provisions. A committee has been set up to review the law and to make recommendations to the lawmakers on the implementation.
