Mental Health Parity Delay Requested

Employer Groups and Insurers request re-work of rule

Insurers and Employer groups indicate that the single deductible rules as they pertain to Mental Health Parity "cripple their cost-control techniques."

The provision in healthcare reform to expand dependent coverage may leave some dependents waiting to be added to parent's policies. The expansion of dependent coverage doesn't go into effect until September 23. Some insurers have said they would provide coverage immediately, or by June 1st but some dependents may have to wait depending on the type and enrollment dates of the plans.

Some companies are looking at the cost benefit of not providing health insurance to employees and just paying the fines as defined in the healthcare reform bill. This would push employees to the newly formed exchanges.
