Campaign to Repeal Healthcare Reform Launched

March 23, 2010

Will carryover into the 2010 elections

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Congressman Steve King (R-IA) have introduced bills to repeal the healthcare reform legislation passed Sunday. Senator DeMint says the bill "will explode the national debt, raise $569.2 billion in new taxes, force taxpayers to fund abortions, and impose unconstitutional mandates on every American." Several state attorney generals are filing suit claiming the legislation is unconstitutional to mandate individuals to purchase health coverage. The White House does not think any Constitutional challenges to the bill will prevail as they believe the Constitution gives the Federal Government the power to regulate commerce.

Many states will struggle with Medicaid budgets due to the increase enrollment with no federal funding (unless they received a "Cornhusker Kickback" or a "Louisiana Purchase" type deal. Meanwhile, HHS Secretary Sebelius is confident the skeptics will feel better about the bill as they learn more about it.
