March 3, 2010

Lifetime expenses for a couple after age 65 close to $200,000

In a report from the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, it is estimated that a typical couple at age 65 should expect to spend $197,000 on uninsured healthcare over the rest of their lives. Included in this figure: health insurance premiums, out of pocket expenses and home health care (exclusive of nursing home care).

Meanwhile the debate of healthcare reform continues in Washington with legislators announcing they will include some GOP recommendations such as cutting costs and preventing fraud. Democrats would like to see the bill on the President's desk before the Easter recess.

Today's NAHU Newswire includes these stories and more.
