Progressives Pushing Public Healthcare Option

February 6, 2010

Talks to include Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

Progressives are looking to revive the public option for healthcare next week and are turning to like- minded Senators including Bernie Sanders (I-VT) Vermont to force Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV) to employ measures to move it back to the Senate floor. According to Politico none of the other provisions added to the healthcare reform bill by Senator Reid are at risk of being removed with the exception of the Nebraska "Cornhusker Kickback".

Of significant note, the Illinois Supreme Court struck down a 2005 law placing caps on medical malpractice awards for pain, suffering, and non-economic harm. The State Supreme Court struck down the law stating that it violated the state constitution.
