| News President Urges Congress to Pass Health Reform January 28, 2010 House Speaker suggests two-track plan In the President's first State of the Union Address last night, he urged Congress to pass health reform without offering any suggestions on how to go about it. Meanwhile, House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has suggested passing easier changes now and revisit a comprehensive overhaul later. Other Democrats are suggesting using reconciliation to push the bill through. WellPoint CEO, Angela Braly is quoted as saying: "the cost of premiums will rise if Democrats force plans to cover people with pre-existing conditions." Many interest groups continue to push for the bills passage but some believe the system may be too complex to reform. Massachusetts Governor Duval Patrick is looking for a twenty-five percent increase amounting to $75 million for Massachusetts health plan to help fund healthcare for legal immigrants. More on the above story and other articles of interest can be found in the January 28, 2010 NAHU Newswire. |
