President Signals he May Compromise on "Cadillac Plan" Tax

January 12, 2010

Labor Unions oppose tax on these plans

The President met with the heads of the nations largest union officials on Monday to discuss the "Cadillac Tax" on high cost insurance plans. The nearly two-hour meeting was tense between the parties and it was clear that labor is opposed to the bill if the tax is included. Also in the January 12, 2010 NAHU Newswire, analysts are questioning the savings projections in the health reform bills. Within the Newswire, USA Today notes that a savings claim is called into question from a HHS report from December. It said that some of the Medicare and Medicaid "cuts 'may be unrealistic' and could result in access to care."

Still in question if the exchanges in the bill will be national or state run. Liberal Democrats would like to see a national exchange run by the government. It is believed that the state run exchanges will win out.
