Senate May Start Healthcare Debate Next Week

November 12, 2009

House prepared to remain in session until December 22nd

Pressure from White House chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, Vice President Biden, and President Obama to have a healthcare reform bill on the President's desk may have Congress working the first three weeks in December and even into Christmas week. It is uncertain if the Senate will be able to approve a bill within this timeframe. Financing the healthcare legislation is still a major factor tied to bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) may consider a higher payroll tax on income above $250,000 a year. It is not known how much of an increase is being considered.
