Senate Finance Committee to vote on Baucus Plan

October 9, 2009

Vote expected next Tuesday

The estimated price tag to taxpayers: $829 Billion over 10 years. This version of healthcare reform may be the foundation of a plan that will eventually make it to the Senate Floor for a full vote. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) said: " The fact is the numbers have arrived at by taxing people who have insurance, as well as cutting benefits for seniors. That's not an acceptable healthcare reform recipe."

The Finance Committee version and the Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee versions need to be combined for what will become the version voted on by the Senate. Then comes the hard work, combining the House and Senate versions. Some elected officials want a public option in the final bill while others do not. It still remains to be seen if there will be cuts in Medicare and what the costs to all Americans will be.

Today's NAHU Newswire highlights up to date information on the Baucus plan as well as the following:

  • Baucus bill includes higher costs for older Americans than other proposals
  • House Democrats eye windfall profits tax on insurance industry
  • Pelosi asks for CBO scoring of three public option variations
